I have no shame in admitting to the fact that I am not a morning person. I am that girl who needs to set 5 alarms in order to make sure that I don’t accidentally sleep through the morning. Since i’d rather sleep than wake up early to apply a full face of makeup, i’ve been able to perfect a 5 minute makeup routine that I’d like to share with you today. Hopefully it inspires you to simplify your makeup routine to save you time during those chaotic mornings.
1. Translucent or Sheer Powder:
Although I love the way that a full coverage foundation makes my face look, on busy mornings, I just don’t have time to blend and work liquid foundation into my skin. On a weekday morning, I like to opt for a sheer or translucent powder. Lately I have been using MAC’s Select Sheer Pressed Powder. I also really enjoy Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in Transparent. I am fortunate enough to be able to get away with a sheer powder to even out my skin. I have naturally rosy cheeks so when I use a base with very little coverage, it allows me to skip having to apply blush.
2. Brightening Concealer:
Similar to my philosophy on foundation, I simply cannot be bothered with blending and setting liquid concealer. For the past few years, I have been using bareMinerals Well Rested as my concealer and under eye highlighter. I also like to apply it on top of my eyelids to cancel out any discoloration and veins that might be peeking through. This concealer provides enough coverage and also brighten up my under-eye area which helps me to look more awake/civilized.
3. Brow Mascara:
On a day-to-day basis, I won’t fill in my brows with powder or pencil but I will at the very least set them in place with brow mascara. I’m currently using the Maybelline Brow Drama Eyebrow Mascara. It does the job but my personal favorite is Benefit’s Gimme Brow. Even though my natural hair is almost black, I usually pick up a blonde or taupe color depending on what is available. I have tried using medium brown and dark brown in the past but I always find that the red undertone is not as flattering as a lighter, neutral tone.
4. Brown Eyeliner:
I have recently made the switch from black liner to brown and do not regret my decision at all. Brown eyeliner still accentuates my eyes without too harsh or obvious. The biggest bonus is that if and when it smudges, you’re not left looking like a raccoon at the office. I have really been enjoying the Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Brown. It claims to be waterproof and smudge-proof but I don’t find this to actually be the case. It is definitely long-wearing but I still find that it smudges by the end of the day. I only apply eyeliner to the outer third of my eyelid. I smudge this in with a pencil brush and run whatever is left on the brush on the bottom third of my lashes.
I cannot leave the house without mascara; I feel naked and insecure without it. I am more than comfortable to go out with a bare face as long as I have mascara on. I don’t always take the extra time to apply a primer but I do really like this one from Maybelline. I do not find that a primer is a necessary step but on the days that I do use it, I find my mascara flakes less and my lashes stay curled all day. My favorite mascara for the past year or so has been the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. The formula is a bit on the wet side, which I actually really like. I replace my mascara every 2-3 months and I would estimate that the past 5 tubes I have purchased have been Lash Sensational. I find that it gives me both length and volume. Another mascara I would highly recommend is Maybelline The Falsies Flared.
And that’s it! That’s my 5 minute morning make-up routine. With some practice, you’ll be able to do this routine with your eyes closed.
I’d love to hear how you save time in the mornings!
